My new studio |
Unfortunately due to the government's lockdown of the country as a result of coronavirus from Tuesday 24th March the university buildings were closed and the Access to HE course was moved to an online platform. I was able to bring some equipment (the studio overhead projector) and materials (various sizes and types of paper, acrylic paint, a small amount of printing ink) home so that I could continue with my project. Consequently I have had to find space for a home studio - a small corner of my kitchen! This will potentially limit the times at which I can work - when no-one is cooking! - and the scale of my work - my kitchen table is a small drop leaf table. However, there is wall space and this is painted white so I will be able to use the OHP to scale up images and continue to experiment with light and shadow.

Inside the OHP |
However, when I came to use the OHP for the first time at home I found that during the journey home the bulb had blown … I have ordered a new one from Amazon but, due to the current lockdown measures, it may take up to a month to arrive. I will have to find a new way of projecting images and either use gridding up to upscale imagery or alternatively work at a much smaller scale.
Note: after a couple of weeks' working from home I am finding the most challenging aspects to be interruption from my family (due to school closures my children are being home schooled), and a struggle to stay motivated during a very stressful time and without the support of my peers. Making entries to this blog will also be challenging as we have two computers shared between four people working from home.
