'Turning The World Inside Out' (1995 - 1997) Anish Kapoor |
I was interested in the reflective properties of this piece and the way the rounded shape distorted the reflections - especially noticeable in the reflection of the floor tiles. The dipped area on top of the sculpture meant that the distortive effects differs depending on where the viewer stands in relation to it, and again on whether it is viewed from ground level or from the mezzanine above.
I am very interested in the way in which the viewer is drawn into the work as they - and their reflection - move around the piece. I would like to experiment with this idea in my own work, making the viewer present and / or absent within the work.
I liked the simplicity of both the black and white colour scheme and of the lines used in these linocuts. The images are reduced to only a few lines which powerfully communicate the artist's message. I particularly like the very simplified faces.
