This is a fascinating article! I frequently use overhead projection and tracing in my own practice and, in my less confident moments, wonder if I am in fact cheating. I agree with Hockney, however, that the artist's choice of what is and is not included is most important - we all perceive the world differently, so even if two artists were to work from the same 'copy' they would produce different works as a result of the choices they make.
